A Slow Start

[link to this post]

Hi everyone,

I've just recently migrated to the broadband extra service provided by the post office and I was just wondering if I could run some line stats by you knowledgeable folks for your scrutiny because I don't think they are quite right.

Results from a bt speed test I did earlier are as follows:-

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.25 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400 Kbps-2 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3.14 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1.25 Mbps

Considering I am syncing above 3 Mbps, shouldn't the IP profile for my line be higher?

Also, I'm only getting a 145kb/s download rate which I'm very disappointed with. Is there anything that can be done to improve it?

I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice anyone could offer me with the above.

Thanks.

What about router stats, attenuation and noise margin are the important ones.

(I should be live on post office on Tuesday)

145 Kilo Bytes per second or 145 Kilo bits per second

@Mr Saffron - Kilobits, I think.

@Ian007jen - The router stats you requested are as follows:-

noise margin upstream: 20.0 db
noise margin downstream: 6.5 db

attenuation upstream: 25.5 db
attenuation downstream: 50.5 db

I've just done another BT speedtest. Results are as follows: -

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.53 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600 Kbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3.14 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2.5 Mbps

I'm pleased there has been some improvement, but how has this happened and is it likely to improve any more?

Nothing wrong with that, just give it a few days to increase IP profile.
