New router - what has changed on config ?

[link to this post]

Have received a new router today from Post Office broadband. Was wondering if anyone knows why new routers are being sent out.

Having spoken to the help desk, they simply say there is a revised configuration in the new router, but it is not clear why that would be. Not sure if it is related to Annex L or Annex M being configured for the service, or it is using a different login. The previous router survived the change from BT to TalkTalk with only a reboot, and gives a line speed of 19Mbit down, 1Mbit up as I live 400 yards from the local BT exchange.

I have already put a good Wireless N router on my line which has been working well for about 4 months. I would rather update the config on the existing router (and preserve the better wireless range) rather than put a £25 router in its place.

Sorry first post here, trying not to ruffle too many feathers.

I'd be shocked if Post Office ran Annex M, even running at beyond 8 Mbps is a bit of a surprise given lack of speed information on the website.

If the old router still works and you are happy with what you bought, then carry on and keep the 'new router' just in case they do change something.

Should get mine next week, wonder if it's better than the last Zyxel. That thing was awful on long lines.

I'm a new customer (well returning after a year) so I imagine when they send me a router it will be the new one.

Am still on my old router.
Have had multiple automated phone calls from PostOffice saying they have noticed that I have not swapped the router yet.
I still can't find out what has changed in the config as I would still prefer to stick with my existing router. When I phone them to ask, the question goes completely over their heads.
Will swap the routers if I lose service, try to deduce the changes and feed them back to my old router.
I changed the router to use Google DNS last year, so I can conclude the config change is not in the DNS settings.
Also got a nice big plastic mailing bag with the new router, but no instructions to post anything back.

None, I enquired today as my long line length means I need a technicolor router and I asked about the difference between old and new zyxel routers and all it was is bridge mode
