ADSL Max to LLU speed improvement

[link to this post]

I'm interested what speeds i would expect from LLU as C&W should be at my exchange soon (hopefully)

I think i've got 33.8db attenuation on my line, it is perfectly stable.

I've used kitz max speed page but not sure how accurate it is.

atm i get about 7700kb, but I do have a DG834GT which I will be using to lower my snr. I can easily get the max 8128 out of my line atm by reducing snr to 4db.

I was wondering if anyone with a similar attenuation, whats the most speed I could expect to squeeze out of my line.

For example, at 6db if i sync at 13088kb (kitz estimation) if I reduced my snr to 0-1db, how much would that increase to?

I'd say 10-12Mb with fair to good stabilty.

if I reduced my snr to 0-1db

Maybe a little more but I doubt it will hold at that rate for too long to make it practical. Remeber also, the default SNR on C&W lines is 9db, so you might not be able to drop it by that much on some routers.

How come the default snr is higher?

Yeah it is possible to reduce by -12db due to an overflow bug on the broadcom chipsets. But yes I'll have to find an snr db which is stable enough for my needs.
I was hoping for 13-15mb. but 10mb + will be fine. I will finally be able to download at 1mb/s+ wooo!

Will be so glad to get off ip profiles.

Another quick question, will C&W's default snr adjust itself like BT's. E.g, if it keeps disconnecting, will it increase the snr default?

It's just the default they set - they don't officially support anything lower.

Sometimes you will get lines with a default at 6db, but this is very rare.

No, there is no DLM on C&W.

Ah ok, Well I will have to try 6db for abit and see stability/speed trade off.

Is there a 10 day training period? Would it be best not to tweak the snr while in this period?

No - No DLM at all.

Oh right, sorry for asking silly questions, never been on LLU you see tongue

Hopefully my exchange will be enabled, within a week or 2. ADSL24 contacted C&W who said there was a delay at my exchange and should be done within 2 weeks.

Another quick question about interleaving that I put to ADSL24.

is it right that interleaving is not turned off completely. You are put on fast path, then ADSL24 said the lowest they could put me on was 8ms. Not sure what this means.

Will this mean my pings will be higher than with ADSL Max?

Which exchange?

No, C&W don't officially support non-interleaved profiles either. 8ms is the lowest interleaved (default) profile they do.

Depending on your ADSL Max service, latency could indeed be higher.

Tollbar - CMTOL

That is a shame interleaved is not supported frown I do quite a lot of online gaming and do like to have a low ping. But I have noticed over the years the ping is very much dependant on the ISP, e.g. my old AOL ping used to be 35+ (moved to adsl24 went to 25, took interleaving off its now 15-20 depending on server etc)

So I'm quessing if I take my current ping and add 8ms I will get my new ping.

Tollbar shows as Feb in the list that I got today, that is likely to have slipped too.

It is likely to be around 25~ again on C&W.. but very much location dependent.
