Moved To An MPF Line - Openreach Insist New One Needed

[link to this post]

Just moved to a new property, tried to get the phone line connected through BT Retail to be told that I would need an entirely new line installed. All well and good apart from that the current line is connected to the exchange, it's generating an engaged tone.

A bit of research showed the line to be owned by Talk Talk, a call to them was pointless as they just did the same Openreach checks as BT Retail which told them that there was no line to the property.

Anyone have any route into Openreach to convince them that there is a line into this property and that it is indeed running the ~210m of cable length to the exchange?

New line, or are they just charging for reactivation of the line.

What is probably happening is that the TalkTalk tag is showing as active, rather than it being in the pool of inactive lines.

The route to take I suspect is via talktalk

BT Retail tried to make an Openreach appointment to install a new line.

Talk Talk likewise wanted to sell me a new line complete with engineer visit even though their tag is active on the line (previous resident left without paying bill).

I'll see what I can do.

Have contacted 2 Gaining Providers - both wanted to sell me a completely new line. *sigh*

yes gaining provider is meant to do the legwork, but they seem to be electing for the new line solution. Which actually should just involve connecting a new master socket to the spare pair to the property.

If TalkTalk themselves won't relinquish the line to themselves, then you are stuffed really. Escalated it to management at TalkTalk, rather than just a sales droid?

That is indeed the route I'm taking.

Thanks as always Andrew.

Basically any "non" LLU company will do a check and see the line is still "active " therfore a "new provide" is required with a suitable price tag, a call to Talk Talk to get the line "stopped" may and i mean may get you out of the new provide charges. As long as openreach dont cease the line.

i can say whatever i want as i no longer work for the [censored]!
