Hello
This ip: 169.254.228.6 is trying to enter into my network and when it does I can´t connect to my computer anymore. How can I know who´s the owner of that address and denounce it?
whenever I turn off my router, and then switch it on again, my conexion settings have changed
my ip address must always be: 192.168.1.33 and then changes to 169.254.228.6
my subnet mask is: 255.255.255.0 and then changes to 255.255.0.0
I am using wireless, but when I used cable connection, my comodo firewall told me every time in a while: "new private network detected" 169.254.228.6/255.255.0.0
It must be that this ip is triying to connect to my computer, and then I cannot connect, right? How can I stop it?
Thanks and greetins

Your PC will get a 169.254.x.x address if it is set to acquire an IP address using DHCP and it cannot find a DHCP server which responds with an allocated address.
It sounds as if you use DHCP (most people do, as this is the default setting), and service is being lost - resulting in you acquiring the 169.254 instead.

To follow on from dandnsmith's post, some background info on this address can be found here, under IPv4: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link-local_address

Hi, are you saying your router IP address within the router, is changed from 192.168.1.33 to 169.254.228.6
What router do you have?
Configure your LAN (Local Area Network) with a Static IP address.
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/static-ip-addre...
BT MAX 8Mbps. Sync 8128 Kbps. Exchange DSLAM=TSTC=Texas Instruments.
3Com 3CRWDR101A-75 ADSL2/2+ router uses Texas Instruments AR7 Chipset
BT Business Hub 2Wire 2700HGV v2 ADSL2+ Dual SSID wireless Router

Thanks all, it´s good to know the ip is from my computer.
I have a wireless router xavi however those ips I see them through windows xp (I´m using xavi because I connected an usrobotics, since I wanted a connection through cables and not wireles, usrobotics is what I normally use without problems in a tower pc, and this laptop doesn´t recognize it, I can´t enter to the page of the browser).
this xavi router doesn´t have a configuration page as it has usrobotics, so the ip changed is found under windows xp - network connections - and then under the connection created by my usb wireless adapter - under status - support. there is where it tells me the ips from my connection.
However my isp provides me with a dynamic address. I like that way, but if it´s going to be better with a static one I´ll try that.

this is only on the local link to the router, essentually the dhcp request times out before the connection has been properly established.
try forcing a 'renew' of the connection,
ipconfig /renew
however, I suspect you may be trying to connect both with wireless and wired at the same time which will cause problems like this
edit:
the other thing that can cause it on a wired connection, is the auto detect for line speed is wrong, so windows sees a connection but cannot talk though it, if this is the case force the line to 100mb/full on the pc.

Hi, do you have the Telefonica Xavi X7768r ADSL wireless Router?
http://www.adslayuda.com/xavi7768.html
When you configure your LAN (Local Area Network) to Static IP address, you keep your ISP Dynamic IP address. You only configure your Desktop computer and Laptop to Static IP address.
BT MAX 8Mbps. Sync 8128 Kbps. Exchange DSLAM=TSTC=Texas Instruments.
3Com 3CRWDR101A-75 ADSL2/2+ router uses Texas Instruments AR7 Chipset

re-reading your original post,
you appear to turn the router off and back on while the computer is connected.
in this case the computer detects the connection, asks for an address via dhcp, but the router isnt ready yet.
if this is the case, leave it a minute or two for the router to wake up, and then unplug the network cable for 10 seconds then reinsert it.
why do you turn the router off?

yes that´s my router. I have tried all that and it seems I don´t have connectivity problems. Sometimes I turn the router off in order to my ip changes, that way I can´t download again from some other server.
But right now I can´t connect to internet through wires, just throught wireless.
I guess that´s because in network adapters I have just two, but the two of them seem wireless
-Intel pro/wireless 3945ABG network connection (this is the one I have in my toshiba a100 laptop)
-RT73 USB wireless lan card (this one appeared when the router xavi was installed)
Maybe it´s the reason why I can´t connect through wires, and in that case, it´s possible to add an ethernet adaptor to a laptop? I went to toshiba and I didn´t see anything about that, but maybe there´s an external usb ethernet adaptor that I can use?
