They have had a few problems after waiting for new pipes, promised by BT over 6 months ago
That's why we would like IDNet to move away from BT and to include other network providers. This will make their service more resistant to network problems. Also, it would be nice if they could offer some LLU packages, or bonded DSL services, or SDSL packages, to name just a few products.

Ahem, Entanet do not offer LLU services (the "Entanet LLU mentioned by Samknows is in reality a completely different thing and has nothing to do with ADSL/SDSL).
The complaints are all about WBC and IPSC, things IDNET are apparently going to start using any time soon as well.

I didn't mention LLU... but I'm sure I saw a reference to Enta using carriers other than BT for their long haul core network connections? things IDNET are apparently going to start using any time soon As, I believe, are all IPStream providers... BT aren't giving them the choice afaik.

I must have missed it. I found myself using the "mark read" button in the Entanet forum...

I tend to skim through at speed, just checking for anything where I might have to put my mod hat on . Quite a well behaved mob though
So I can't remember which thread, and as I can't remember the names of the carriers either I can't search

Correct. They are using at least one other company for its backhaul, Global Crossing. What is worse is that it appears that enta have no resilience in the system ie, if a fibre gets cut, then all traffic stops, there is no alternative routing. We have seen the effects of this twice in as many weeks when the fibre has been cut which caused major outages. Its worth having a look at the enta forums to see what difficulties they have got themselves into. Where 21cn adsl2+ is not available, Idnet will have to go over to the same system system that enta have ie IPSC to continue service to existing customers. My guess is, that as Enta is the first company to do the changeover, many other ISPs including IDnet should learn from Entas costly mistakes, particularly with the capacity available at the nodes and backhaul routings and resilience.
Rule one in IT, is that if something can go wrong, it will. And when it does go wrong, the weather will be pants, and when you have fixed it, something else will go wrong. That's why you want alternative routings.

The main motivation for moving away from BTW is cost imho. LLU is not the holy grail that some think it is. I have spoken to a few LLU customers, and they cant wait to bet back onto a BTW based product. Exceptions are companies like BE, maybe a couple more. Moving the backhaul to other providers does not necessarily mean more resilience in that part of the system, quite the opposite can be the case, as we have already seen.
I would have thought the growth of LLU would have been a sufficient kick up the pants for BTW, but no, not yet anyway.

Thanks John, nice to know the old memory hasn't completely given up the ghost Rule one in IT, is that if something can go wrong, it will. And Rule 2 is that Rule 1 is optimistic
