Comodo

Probably a daft question but I'll ask anyway.

As AVG free was slowing my laptop to a standstill I've installed uninstalled AVG and Comodo firewall and installed the Comodo combined firewall and anti virus.

My Laptop now works at warp speed in comparison but I'm concerned at the absence of any E-mail anti virus configuration which leads me to wonder if it actually scans E-mails,there's also no mention of it on the Comodo website.

Anyone know ?

I found this on the Comodo CIS Forum - not sure what to think now any thoughts please ?

No it does not !
Comodo's philosophy here is that malware has to hit the memory or the hard drive to get activated. And those 2 parts are scanned. Al other "scanners" won't add anything to your protection level(s).
So for example if you receive an email with an infected attachment you won't get an alert, if you try to open/save it you will. This reduces resources and yet makes CIS a very fast, light & powerful Suite.

So where does your email client put any attachments if not on the hard disk? I am *so* glad I ditched my short term trial of Commodo and went back to AVG.

Yeah but viruses are only harmful if they get loaded.

I've just run 2 full scans of my putter and each time the scan locked up when it got to the System folders.

I think I'll give Avast a try - can anyone recommend a good Firewall or what's the current opinion on the Windows, do I need a firewall anyway as I use a Netgear router ?

indeed - a lot of people seem to miss out this crucial fact

Fair point but what's the use of an av scanner that won't scan?, it casts a bit of doubt on the rest of it's ability.

But when you open the attachment it *will* scan so all it means is it will only detect it once you double click it rather than as you download it

Thanks M8 but I was refering to my earlier post where I said that on two runs the system scanner locked up when it got to the system folders and has never completed a full scan I had to button it to re boot windows.

Which assumes the A/V is still active at the time the file is opened rather than at the time the file is moved within the "trusted" zone. It is a bit like having a some sausages of unknown origin sitting in the fridge. Are they Irish or are they safe to eat?
