Looking for a new ISP

[link to this post]

Hi guys

Just joined O2 and due to the fact that I`m getting speeds of around 300kbps at peak times I`ve decided to activate my 30 day get out clause and try someone else!

Im not in an LLU area so my options are limited. My basic needs are:

Xbox live in the evenings from around 6pm to 12am
P2P downloads - maybe a gig per day - but happy to leave these going overnight.
Usual browsing and email etc.

My line only synchs at around 4mb.

I only really want to pay 15-20 quid a month and I appreciate that there will be some slowdown with the cheaper ISPS. As long as the Xbox live isnt affected and I get something approaching line speed off peak and 1-2 meg at peak times I`ll be happy enough!

Any suggestions?

If you don't use your connect before 6pm, then go for AAISP.

From April 1 Newnet Home M may suit you, as they are introducing an unmetered period overnight from then - see this post. The poster is the MD.

Obviously the whole of the thread will be of interest - that link is just so you see 1 April is not a lousy joke by me.

If you see any mention of ND packages ignore them, that's Newnet LLU on about 10 Southern exchanges.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

On Newnet you can pre-pay additional GB and it carries forward if not used, but if you join mid-month you may not need to as, unless it has changed recently, you get a full month's allowance even if you join mid-month. Allowances are by calendar month not user month.

What you need is for someone connected to your exchange who lives close to you, to have done some testing to determine which ISP is best for you and why it fits your needs.

Sounds like an identicle situation to myself.

I went for Plusnet Pro package @ £19.99 per month after getting fed up with the issues with entanet.

All traffic prioritised with no throttling. You only get 15gb peak times but I think I can live with that. Unlimited between 00:00 - 08:00, plus you can always pay for more gb allowance.

12 month contract is a pain but I am going to give it a whirl. Being on an openly advertised non-throttled connection should ensure there is no shannigans regarding speed so there should be no need to leave b4 12 months is up.
