Sky Connect Broadband a joke

[link to this post]

Hi all,
For over 2 years ive been with Sky connect and through out my time with Sky Ihave consistantly been complaining about speed at peak.
Always Sky have said its due to traffic.
They've run tests
and still came back the same old answer its due to your excange being busy.
So sick of this I escalated the claim telling Sky I complained to OFCOM and OTELO.
then out of the blue i got a call saying that I had been recieving slow line speeds because Sky were throtling the line to be fair to other users.
My points are as follows:
1. If I had known that was the case I would have left Sky two years ago.
2. Never during the 2year period have Sky told me they are restricting my speed
3.Why when I complained was I mis led and told its due to a busy exchange

So now I seeking compensation and leaving this dreadful ISP

It's a well known and excepted fact amongst forum users that Sky Connect service is rubbish , request your MAC and move to pastures greener .

Only that if the OP is on a Market 1 exchange, most alternatives will cost more, or give less usage.

Sky Connect is £17 for 40gigabytes of usage anytime of day.

Nothing else comes close....??

James - be* pro - on THFB - sync about 17.2mbps - BQM

Yeah I'm sorry to say that it is indeed a well known fact that Sky Connect is rubbish. As is O2's off-network Access package.

Plus net are good value but be aware their support is somewhat non-existent.

In a perfect world , you should get what you pay for but I personal feel sky connect service is not worth £10 let alone £17 a month IMHO .

Ok, thanks - just looking at that. I had to check it was available on Market 1 exchanges. Previously when I looked into this (Summer 2010) PlusNet was the closest but the usage was low (20gig I think), and you hit a lot of traffic management.

Sky Connect was running at <500kbps on a Saturday afternoon (on a line sync'd at 8128kbps with 18db attenuation) - but now runs at about 1.8meg.

The user is extremely cost constrained and wouldn't want to increase payments by even 99p; into an unknown.

Xilo/Uno offer a plan around the £17 mark (I think its £16.15+VAT) which was also tempting - but I think that was for 25gb usage.

UKOnline's £20 IPStream offering used the exact the same network and thus came with the exact same issues. However, nobody there kept tabs on how much was being downloaded. You could eat up a terabyte in a month and nobody would bat an eyelid.
