DLM Testing

[link to this post]

Hi,

I am in the 5th day of testing and my speed has been the same for the last two days. stats from router are:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11263 kbps 1106 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.5 dB 15.9 dB
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 8.4 dB

Am I likely to get better speeds? The Kitz checker estimates I should get around 17meg!!!!

Doesn;t appear to be much room for improvement, the Sky noise margin is 7 which you are at.
Are you testing wired or wireless?
Agree you should be seeing more, check your wiring and extensions/filters

I am using a laptop connected to the router wirelessly. I would not have thought the stats would be any different if I connect a cable to the router as these stats are produced at source by the router.

Shame as I have just switched from a 20meg cable connection. Though I already had Sky TV and made the switch to save money.

Yeah the stats will be the same if you connected to it through wired, like he said your getting the max of what you can get without doing anything... something is probably wrong with either the wiring or the filter.

Depending on the phone socket wiring in your home there might be more to get. I have an attenuation of 25db and I get close to 17meg.

Kitz and other estimators have to assume there is a perfect line, and unfortunately most BT lines aren't perfect.

Do you have a modern "split" master socket? If so have you tried connecting your router (with a filter) to the test socket behind the front plate and checking the stats?
