Using sky fibre with tomato router

[link to this post]

I want to just use the sky supplied FTTC modem and connect it up to an Asus RT-N16 running shibbys build of tomato.

I have looked everywhere but have not found any guides on how to make this work with tomato. I am not interesting in running DD-WRT.

Many thanks.

It all requires you to understand how the DHCP works on the WAN side - see this wiki page for what to do on some releases of Tomato.

In order for me to get the sky username and password I take it I use this?

http://www.ph-mb.com/products/sky-calc

Once I get those and follow the guide you linked to everything should work?, providing the modem is plugged into the WAN port of the ASUS RT-N16?

I take it there is no configuration required for the FTTC modem.

No guarantees, as I don't know anyone using Tomato with Sky but that's the general idea.

I take it there is no configuration required for the FTTC modem.

Correct.

I managed to get this working successfuly.

STEP BY STEP:

(0. Optional. Not sure if needed. Find the MAC address of the port used in the original Sky Router. Then go to Advanced -> MAC Address and replace the WAN MAC address with the one from the Sky Router)

1. You need to figure out your Sky username and password. You need to find your SKY routers MAC address and the default WAP network key. Look on the sticker on the bottom of the router to get those.

2. Go to Sky router password generator to generate your username and password.

3. Once you got them, put both your PPP Username and PPP Password on the same line. It should look something like this put together (and no, that is not my real username/pw):
ahkah2kjh8@skydsly4k5j5kaas

4. Now generate a HEX code from your ascii username/pw. Go here to generate. It should look something like this:
4736c34796c59646331c7656b35c66431665455a540736b759 3955416d56638496f

5. Now, in the Tomato interface, go to Advanced -> DHCP/DNS. Scroll down a bit until you see DHCPC Options. Type/paste inn the following: "-x 0x3d:<your hex key from step 4 without>". It should looks like this:
-x 0x3d:4736c34796c59646331c7656b35c66431665455a54073 6b7593955416d56638496f

Press save.

when you joined your username/password together before changing to hex, did you use any seperator / or space?

I used this format:

PPPUsername|PPPPassword

so yes a seperator was used.

I am not going to post my actual hex value. That value I gave above was just an example.
