Location reported incorrectly

[link to this post]

I don't use many location based services, but when I use Speedtest.net, search in Google, Google maps or my Wife wants to post on Facebook (with location on, why?? God knows!!), my location is reported as Bristol or Exeter, I am in Bedfordshire!! I know it is all going to be down to routing and what have you, but when we were in Leeds, our location was reported to be in Leeds, so why the up to 200 mile difference? Is there a way around it, as it can be a pain to continually drag markers from the other side of the country to the home location.

Thanks

Most pc's do not have a GPS fitted into them. You need to use a GPS service on your mobile to say speedtest.net, and then over time the location web sites will catch up.

I appreciate the laptops and pc's aren't fitted with gps, but whenever I used Google search, it automatically reports my location in the search preferences as Paignton, whereas before it was reasonably accurate and stated Leeds. I have certainly never added Paignton as a place to search in, so not sure why it is reported that I am there?

speedtest.net is just guessing based on a geo-ip database, so will sometimes be right and sometimes wrong.

Google has the advantage of seeing various other details that help them drill down to a better location accuracy
