SR101 Router and DNS

[link to this post]

I've searched the Internet after trying to change the DNS on my Sky SR101 Router and wasn't happy when much of the info provided states that the DNS cannot be changed...

I thought I would ask here, just in case there is a way and I have for some reason missed the info...

So, can you change the DNS on the Sky SR101 Router?

Many thanks in advance...

Nope you cannot although the Sky DNS is really no slower than OPENDNS etc. If you were on TalkTalk it would be worth doing, as their DNS is somewhat sluggish often.

Sky have stated that the up and coming porn filter will be handled via DNS, which means locking the DNS servers in the router makes sense: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/06/06/big_4_isps_w...

I see. I will be opting out immediately rather than trying to technologically beat it. Not because I want access to it but because I want to say no to censorship.

While you can not change the DNS on the router you should be able to change the server used on each PC.

It's in the TCP/IP settings under Local Area Connection which is under Network Connections/Control Panel (Win XP). Change it from "Obtain Automatically" to "Use the following DNS severs".

Likewise, and I've done the same on my mobile.

I had to opt out on my mobile (H3G), I think they have always had this system in place...

If it's important to you maybe have a look on fleabay for a Fast or Fast N there is "modified" firmware available for them that uncovers the sagecom interface any you can then set your own choice of dns. I'm running it here on a Fast N and it it works fine with opendns....

From what I can tell there is no real difference between the Fast N and the SR anyway. ...
