Connecting only at night?

A few days our connection started playing up, it would only connect for around 30 seconds and it would rarely even connect. I noticed when it got dark it did connect again, I thought it was a fluke, but its done it again tonight. We noticed crackling on the phone line too today.

I rang up sky yesterday and they did a line test found nothing wrong but could see all the disconnections from the logs, he eventually wanted me to take the faceplate off as usual but I need to find a converter for the square end (rj-11?) to a rectangle end so it can fit in the test socket as it fits into a filtered faceplate now.

Is my filtered faceplate kaput? We have had trouble with disconnections when it rains too ever since we moved here, so I doubt the line coming to our house is very good quality. I just don't see how it can go for being fine, then at 1:15 about 3 days ago it stops connecting.

Its connected a lot slower now than usual (4mbps down), but at least the connection is up

is your telephone line noisy. Raise a service call with your phone provider stating a noise on the line problem. do not mention broadband.

Noise Margin 16.6 dB 12.12 dB

this is very high. should be around 3 or 6 rather than 16.

Try it in the test socket, you will need a broadband filter to do this. If it's still dropping out in the TEST socket Sky will send out an openreach engineer who will fix it.
