Broadband Shield goes wrong

[link to this post]

Sky's Broadband Shield currently blocks http://perezhilton.com/ even when disabled.

No comment from Sky as yet.

Not blocked here.

Some report it works ok, others like myself found it blocked.

I unblocked the site in the end by switching the filter on.

Sky seem to have fixed it. No explanation from Sky as to what went wrong.

I don't know which concerns me more; the fact that it went wrong or the fact that Sky haven't acknowledged that it went wrong.

Seems not uncommon for Sky.

For instance the thread below proves the Sky SMTP server has been failing to deliver messages with no notification to either party. Whilst the issue has since been fixed after Sky reported it to Yahoo, we've heard no official confirmation from Yahoo about anything.

http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Yahoo-Mail/Sky-email...

Given how busy the Sky SMTP server is, this could have resulted in a huge amount of lost mail.

It's been going wrong for since they launched it. Do a quick Google and you'll find plenty of articles about it blocking legitimate sites.

It's the copyright filter that's been blocking legitimate sites before now, that's very different technology to the parental control filter (IP based rather than DNS based). There have also been problems with the IWF filter which is yet another technology (URL, proxy based) different to the other two (although the copyright filter and IWF filter seem to be behaving more similarly now).
