Migrated to Sky

[link to this post]

Migrated from plusnet to Sky Fibre Pro Unlimited at 12.15am this morning. So far so good!

Downstream is at 64.49Mb/s compared to 61.88Mb/s

Upstream is at 20.10Mb/s compared to18.52Mb/s but I didn't think you could get more than 18.5Mb/s after overhead etc.

DNS response has gone from 18m/s down to 4m/s.

Ping has gone from 18m/s down to 13m/s

So far pretty happy with the migration, connection has been rock solid. Bridged the SR102 rather than use the BT OR ECI modem, its nice to actually see some stats (even basic ones) for a change.

plusnet Unlimited Fibre (FTTC) > Sky Fibre Pro Unlimted. Sync ~ 64.91/18.84Mbps

Give it a week or so and your speeds will probably go back to where you were. The DLM has probably been completely reset by the migration.

The Huawei HG612 modem "unlocked" is the best stats. The Sky router and the BT Homehub gives basic stats. Matching the modem to the DSLAM in the cabinet also helps.

plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - 80/20 - Summer/dry sync 55/9.4, Winter/wet sync 52/9.1
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - BQM - Summer PN speed - Winter PN speed

Probably, who knows but I no longer have to gateway hop smile

On an ECI cab and had an ECI BT OR so any stats are a bonus!

Downstream is at 65.29Mb/s compared to 61.88Mb/s

Upstream is at 18.82Mb/s compared to18.52Mb/s.

Ping is 13ms compared to 18ms.

I did switch out the SR102 for the ECI BT OR modem though, issues with double NAT...

IME as much as I don't want to admit it, Sky's residential broadband service has been excellent - I get a full 80/20 sync on my FTTC connection with them, and it's never let me down - far better than I anticipated.

And are the small changes in speed noticeable?

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

Well I don't get speed dips at peak times and I don't have to gateway hop any longer.

So I would say the speed changes are not noticeable but the consistency definitely is!

Yep, Sky FTTC is amazing, completely unlimited, low latency and reliable.

This looks good...

I've just ordered a Sky LLU (ADSL) connection for Online Gaming as using my Plusnet connection is shocking even though my connection the the DSLAM at same speed as yourself is brilliant.

I chose Sky as I would have the choice of switching between Pro and Standard packages and upgrading to Fibre would be a simple as making a phone call and them sending someone to the cabinet... But I'm avoiding Fibre for a bit anyway...

Plusnet Unlimited 21CN 4200/800 @ 4.2Km > TP-Link TD-W8968v3 - BQM IPv4
Plusnet Fibre Extra 66000/20000 @ 450m > HG612 (Unlocked) > Linksys LRT224 - BQM IPv4

Sky's relatively new Pro package would be the only thing to tempt me from Plusnet, but its a LOT more expensive for the 80/20 profile and I get 50/11 real world speeds so dropping down to 38/7 isn't something I want. Not having issues myself with Plusnet and enjoying static IP but waiting on IPv6smile

I assume you would drop down to 40M/10M (I get 2-3k less than that). Wonder how much concurrent download you are actually using. Could be it is less than 40M (lets say 25M as an example) so you may not notice any difference. My SKY FTTC connection has been rock solid for the last 2 1/2 years.

obviously no static IP. The update to 80/20 + static is another tenner

I experienced the difference for a couple of weeks last year when I switched to Plusnet smile

I would have to go Pro to get the static IP option which is the £30/m + Phone line. With Plusnet I'm paying £19/m for a pretty good service (for me).

Sky might get my business at £22 or £25/m but at £30/m they're out of the ballpark I'm afraid.

They'll probably let you have it for £20 if you call them.
