Switching Provider "range holder denied porting number"

[link to this post]

I was contacted by Sky today to tell me my broadband order had been cancelled. The reason given was that they could not port my number from Talktalk. On phoning talktalk they said they do not with hold numbers as they are not allowed to,anyway it would only lie dormant for 6 months. Sky insist the message they got was "Cannot port number, range holder denied" . Is this true and who is the range holder ? Is it Talktalk or wholesale. Any help appreciated.

Very interesting. Info shows my number as still being Sky, even though BT for over 2 years..

Sorry to hijack.

Does this checker give the current operator or the original issuer in whose block the number sits? As an example in the case of my mobile, this was originally issued by Vodaphone with a phone. I almost immediately unlocked the phone and transferred to Giffgaff and now am with BT as part of a "cheaper" broadband deal. In both cases the changes were made using a PAC code.

AQL continue to show my number as being with Vodaphone.

Yep, exactly same story here: number originally from Vodafone, ported to giffgaff, the above checker still shows as Vodafone.

The lookup shows the owner of the number who have to give permission for the number to be ported between various telecom operators. When a number is ported, the ownership isn't.

Yup, same thing here. Number originally from Virgin Mobile. Been with Vodafone for over a year, that site still claims number owned by 'EE'.

Ah, just saw the explanation from Batboy. How..odd smile

http://www.pcapredict.com/en-gb/mobile-number-valida... is a good lookup and usually tells you the network that has the number now instead of the range holder.
