Interruptions in service

[link to this post]

After a bad start I thought the network had settled down a bit. Has anyone else noticed increased loss of service recently? Over the last 2 to 3 weeks, I have had periods of complete loss of service lasting up to 5 minutes. That is on LLU no phone or ADSL. The phone comes back first followed by the BB. Last was yesterday at 2313 for one minute. When it returns there is no apparent change in sync speed. Anyone know what is going on? Is it local or backhaul or worse?

If ADSL sync and dial tone are lost then its either a break in the copper that is intermittent that affects both wires, OR the MSAN line card is being rebooted

In reply to:

Why would this be done? Is more than one subscriber connected to each card?

Whilst as yet I have not been LLU'd (Basingstoke, Hants), I have had a temporary loss of broadband service in the last two days (Sunday & Monday) which appears to have lasted for about an hour or so each time.

The phone seems to have been unaffected.

Since my 3-week loss of BB my connection has stayed up for days at a time without loss.

I see from my modem log it was down between 2:10am and 4:30am this morning which looks like a possible maintenance window? For some reason I do not know if the phone also went down at this time...

Another loss of broadband last night about 9pm for around 1.5 hours.

Any of you Talk Talk guys (TalkTalk Boy, Puddles, 2ndlinesupport) any ideas as to why this might be?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

The first thing to check is your own end of the telephony circuit. So with that in mind my suggested checks would be:

How many extension sockets have you got in total?
How many extension sockets are in use?
Do you have microfilters on all extension sockets?
What modem are you using?

When you notice that there is no adsl signal getting to your modem, do you still have no ADSL signal with the modem connected through a filter into the test socket. If no test socket is available, as we understand not all customers have an NTE5 master socket, check that all non adsl equipment is disconnected from the telephony circuit and the modem connected through a working microfilter into the master socket instead. <-- thats the crucial one, because if we need to log a fault with our network supplier, be it Opal Wholesale or BTWholesale, thats a question we are asked.

Thanks

Do TT know that over 50% of end users do not have an NTE5 fitted? Hence no test socket?

Hi

Yes, we are well aware of the various types of master socket.

So, if a customer contacts us and they do not have a test socket available, we ask that all non adsl equipment is disconnected from the telephony circuit and the modem connected through a working microfilter into the master socket instead.

Thanks.
