Information For Union Members & TalkTalk Customers

[link to this post]

Dear friends,

Carphone Warehouse is victimising trade unionists. They have sacked one active member at their Wednesbury Logistics Centre already, and now they want to sack the CWU rep, Kulwinder Plaha, as well.

More information here: http://carphoneworker.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/carph...

TalkTalk / Carphone Warehouse workers need your support! Messages of protest make a difference. They show the company that union members are not alone; that they cannot persecute trade unionists behind closed doors.

Please take the time to send a message of protest to Carphone Warehouse CEO Charles Dunstone, over the sacking and victimisation of union members. If you can, please make up your own. Otherwise, please use the draft text below.

You can make a difference! Please send messages to dunstonec@cpw.co.uk and cc: CWU organiser Tom Dale tdale@cwu.org

***Please take action to support CPW workers

Dear Charles Dunstone,

Re: Victimisations of active CWU members at Wednesbury Logistics Centre

I am writing in protest at the disgraceful treatment of CWU members at the Wednesbury Logistics Centre. The sacking of Sulinder Kumar and the current discipline case against Kulwinder Plaha are clearly attacks on the right to organise a union; revenge for the fact that the two dared to speak out. It is disgraceful that a company should be acting like this in the 21st Century.

I urge you to see to it that the two men are reinstated immediately, and that the culture of union busting at the Wednesbury site end now. Please keep me informed of your decisions in this matter.

Sincerely,

Come on - Unions are the scourge of industry.

This sort of post is a joke on this forum and should not be allowed.

Hmm well unions have a legal right to "organise", and if a company is willing to circumvent that right in respect of its employees, you have to wonder about it ethics in other areas, such as treatment of customers.

Unions are a Scourge? So are companies that treat employees as if they owned them, there's good and bad on both sides, and given that employment law in this country can be very weak in some areas, unions are pretty important.

It always amuses me to see a "union" vilified, after all, the actions of unions are dictated by its members - ordinary working people, We have come a long way since the excesses of the 70's. I know I have been grateful in the past for protection from arbitrary actions by a company looking to renege on agreed terms of employment.

Just My Opinion.... YMMV

Any ISP that thinks that selling my click traffic is acceptable is MisinPHORMed

Disputes like this are always complex, that's why the means for resolving them are through legal entities. We've heard one side of the story, that's it.

When CarPhone Warehouse is dealing with union recognition, they might like to take a moment to consider just how many trade union customers they have. Probably above average I would think as they are catering for the lower price end of the market.

TalkTalk have tons of customers from all walks of life. I simply don't see hoards of customers leaving because a couple of staff got sacked.

Indeed. And many may not be aware that Union Reps are under heavy attack at Carphone Warehouse at the moment and might like to spare the time to give them some support.

The linked article provides very minimal information as to what is actually going on, and simply requests support from others within a union simply because they joined the same union.

Surely members are intelligent to decide for themselves if given the info?
