router attenuation change

Hi can a router really make a big difference in attenuation or do you think its just reporting wrong im with talk talk and usually use a D-Link DSL-2780 (talk talk supplied) but recently got chose to be part of a BETA trial on talk talk labs to use a hauwei HG523a i set it up yesterday but haven't really looked into the status page till just now.

Both same cabling brand new filter that come with the new router filter plugged directly into test socket used to have a pre-filtered faceplate but part of the trial is ive got to use the supply'd filter and i dont have a front faceplate the OR engineer put my pre filtered 1 on for me and took the NTE5 normal faceplate but the stats are identical even when using my old pre filtered plate.

So was the dlink adding extra attenuation or is it just a fluke (every one around me gets a 30-32 autten but ive always got more near 37-40 but i understand that means nothing as i could take a diff route completely after the cab) Although this link dose say

Recorded Line Length (from exchange): 2172m
Estimated Attenuation (on ADSL): 30dB

Which makes me wonder even more if it is just a knackered old line and the new router handles it better

Don't believe it! It says 19 dB attn. for me, but I get 26-27 dB on many routers.

It obviously has no inkling of line length and can only go by map distances.

thanks for the reply i think ive answered my own question anyway out of curiosity i plugged my old Sky sagecom router in to the talktalk line

very similar results to the hauwei so that Dlink must actually add a fair few dbs on lol

i find it quite funny that talktalk internet works no matter what you put for the user/pw my sky router connected to the net even though its hard coded with skys details i was just expecting sync sats but not to work lol

If the DLink doesn't quote the output power

Output Power(dBm) 0 0


I would be a bit wary of it.

These are the stats with the dlink plugged into my sky line as you can see its put the attenuation at 41 were as the sky router on the sky line gives 37 as you see it is showing output power when in the sky line

Exactly! And they're NOT REVERSED!

i read what you put wrong lol yea it also reversed it on the talktalk line too i switched it round in the stats in the origonal post as to not confuse and i forgot in the sky stats lol

the router in speaking as 2 places to get stats
