just had talktalk fibre installed

Hi there just had my fibre installed happy too get over 20meg now unlike the 4meg i was gettin before. anyone know why im only getting 24meg on a speed test on wifi but when i plug it in with the wire i get 37meg?

its an EchoLife router im using.

Ethernet is always faster than Wi-Fi. Though, are you using an 802.11n adapter for wireless? If you're on 802.11g this may cause the degradation.

I presume you mean the Huawei HG532? If so its widely regarded as junk, you're better off getting an alternative router. Have a look here for alternatives:

yes its the Huawei HG532 router i take it, that its not very good and had lots of probs with it?

Yeah definitely go for an alternative router....the wireless speeds on that Huawei router are horrible. The Netgear WNR2000v2 comes highly recommended by TalkTalk fibre users, can picked up from ebay for around 20 quid:

Alternatively if money isn't an issue then consider replacing your openreach fibre modem & Huawei router by using a combined modem/router. Of course strictly speaking you're not supposed to touch the OR modem, but i think once combined fibre modem/routers become common, people will be ditching the OR modem for ease of use. The Billion 8200N modem/router is supposed to work well on a FTTC connection:
