Estimated speed from TT

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

FTTC will be in place in a few weeks,

Talktalk website is giving me an estimate of:

With up to 40Mb Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband
Your estimated speeds would be:
Download 33 Mb
Upload 2 Mb

With up to 80Mb Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband
Your estimated speeds would be:
Download 33 Mb
Upload 6 Mb

My question is, i know its down to distance, from Green box, I can see mine from my window, it has to be less than a 100 yards lol.

could the estimate be wrong, and i could get the full 80mb,

anyone signed up in a short distance share speed they get after sign up?

thanks for any replies smile

The estimate is just an estimate, so often is low, and for a few it is high

You sure that's the specific cabinet you're connected to? Not everyone is always connected to the closest or most obvious cabinet.

Some estimates are indeed low but that, for a 100m line is really really low.

The green box your phone is connected to is not the cab the FTTC goes to and it may not even be close by it.

ah i see, that seems weird tho, so id have to get unpaired from that box and reconnected to a new box,

would make sense in a way, would save BT work so they don't have to run fiber to every green box

Im still optimistic tho, its a new estate, and its one mother of a green box, I havent seen one bigger ever lol, its probably around 5ft high 6-8ft width, its at the entrance of the estate so i am hoping it covers the whole estate smile

No, they like to keep the distance to <= 50 metres. wink

But that is not set in stone. For example, the site for the FTTC twin for {THCN}{P20}, has now been revised and is now > 50 metres.
