Do talktalk charge for 2nd line install

[link to this post]

Do talktalk charge for a 2nd line install. I already have a bt line with broadband.

Any problems with speed up or down etc. by having a 2nd line installed

it will all depend on what charges are raised by Openreach.

Most of their offers only apply to the first line in a property.

with regard to the 2nd broadband affecting speed on both services, my gut feeling is that the normal phone cable(s) are not twisted pairs, or shielded, so until the wire turns into these or goes to optical there is a good chance of crosstalk interference.

Just a gut feeling based on 20 years of various electronics and cabling etc but I could be wrong about current phone cable constructions or other mitigating technologies.

In theory, theory and practice are identical.....in practice they aren't!

Normal telephone cabling as installed by BT in the street and to the home is twisted pair and has been for many years.

Some very ancient decades old drop wires may be untwisted pair, but usually just two wires and support for no second line. So a new drop wire would be installed, complete with twists

Thanks, my knowledge of the external BT stuff was limited to two old properties, but as you say I don't think they had 2nd line capability.

So, to update, it looks like just the internal cabling will affect the speeds, which should be easily nullified
