Speeds and ping.

[link to this post]

I have noticed differing results when using - http://www.speedtest.net

If i choose a server close to me i get -

Preston

http://www.speedtest.net/result/4090542455.png

If i choose ones further away i get -

Manchester

http://www.speedtest.net/result/4090556250.png

Coventry

http://www.speedtest.net/result/4090549154.png

Other speed-tests give my download at 13:00 Mb/s but the ping varies a bit, can anyone explain why i am seeing this?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on where you are in the UK a lot.

Also with the speedtest.net services there is no guarantee on the performance of the server you are linking to, i.e. some may give reasonable speeds but higher latency due to congestion.

Thanks MrS,

I am in Cumbria so the tests i did were from the nearest server to the furthest, so basically if i can get low pings and decent download and upload speeds from some servers ignore the low ones.

The servers closest to you might not give the best latency, because your traffic goes to TalkTalk's data centres first (which might be in London).
