Wow, moving home is expensive!

[link to this post]

So, I'm currently paying £11.25 a month for fibre large. I have 8 months left on my contract, and 2 months left on my Value Line Rental.

So, getting to the end of my contract would cost me 6x£17.70, 8x£11.25, Total £196.20.

To terminate now, they remove all discounts, and the early termination charge is £238.80, so more than running to the end of my contract.

I considered taking it with me, except they tie me in for 18m and remove all discounts.

This makes it £47.70 a month!!!!

I guess I'm just going to have to terminate but this seems crazy. I have a plusnet line too, also 80/20 FTTC, and this would only cost £96 to terminate early!!

Why are you terminating and not just doing a home move?

Because I currently pay £11.25+Line Rental, which is what, £28.95?

If I move they take all the discounts off, and I pay £47.70, so almost £20 a month more.

Plus, Virgin Media are available at the new property and will offer me 200mbit for £33.50, with no line rental.

It might be worth asking a TT OCE about this over on the TT forum, i know of someone who managed to keep his existing discounts at his new address, though he had to request this via the TT forum.

I'd start from the other end

Sky offer a contribution towards leaving charges

https://www.cable.co.uk/guides/7-things-you-need-to-...

If you ring BT they have been known to help. Alternatively there are offers current which may cover the cost

Find the best offer and go back to TT. Start at the top. They must be keen to keep customers

Ring 0435 172 0088, state the reason for calling is cancellations, moving home yes. Let them know you want to bring over the offers otherwise you will cancel entirely.

I am sure they will sort you out. BTW they are usually UK based.

Funny lot, TalkTalk. I moved in March and asked for my AOL package to be installed in my new address (100 miles away).
I must be the only person ever to ask Talk Talk to move to a new area and have my old phone on divert until my value package rental expires.
To cut a long story short, I had to go elsewhere and to get the number diverted, a fault had to be put on the line.
Guess what, at least twice a little Indian engineer has said he can fix by fault if I go to my computer!!
I've just put the phone down on a BT engineer who tells me there is no fault on my line. It was just a chance remark about which exchange he was in, that the penny dropped!!
I'm now expecting the diversion to be removed and my non-working broadband to be reinstated in my old address.
It's 0345 172 0088 with lots of options but not one that is any use!

Ok, so I've changed my package to 40/2, which has reduced my termination fee to £188 or so.

Except now, even though I'm paying this, they wont terminate for 30 days?! They say they need 30d notice - I'm paying them 8 months of notice!!

So after I move, the phone is left connected, because they refuse to cease it.

What a joke this company are.

Did you ring the number I provided & specifically speak to cancellations.

30 days is standard with almost all ISPs btw.
