Task Manager Memory Usage

[link to this post]

Noticed last night that Tbbmeter was using 38 Meg of memory. On boot today it was using 17 Meg, and is currently using 19 Meg.

What's the story?

Raised this before - there is an explanation somewhere. Mine currently shows a peak of 111,760 kB so about 110MB !

Now at 20.5 Meg as I type. Will be interesting to see how high it goes. In times of 4GB of memory, it's hardly a big deal, but I'm fairly particular about the memory usage of 'always on' programs which can be disabled.

Oh, and another quick question.

Green = Download
Red = Upload
Yellow = ???

If it's ping time, how is it measured, given that the graph is in Meg?

Yellow is where there is both up and down ...

If Upload is greater than Download you will get a Red bar partially overlaid with yellow or if Download greater green overlaid with yellow

And it isn't ping, it is data rate. That's the whole point of watching the graph to see how speed testers are screwing up.

You get ping graphing from the QM.

Looking at the original reason I question it, I saw around 220MB usage and in fact looking now it has peaked at 229MB. But it does free up memory when another process needs it and the big peaks are always fairly short.

But then look at processes such as Firefox - it can easily get to 1GB and McAfee was taking 400MB at one point yesterday.

I've done a bit of monitoring and spotted the high point and low point on the resource monitor:

http://www.camieabz.co.uk/tbbmet1.jpg

http://www.camieabz.co.uk/tbbmet2.jpg

The Task Manager's memory usage reported is around 20 Meg below the resource monitor (In fact I think the TM figures are reported in the resource monitor as 'private' on the far right).

3% of CPU on average. On a 3Ghz dual core, that's 180Mhz constantly.

NetMeter uses about 4MB, and 6MB when in maximised state, and about 1% CPU resources.

Oh, and when I exit the application of Tbbmeter, the IsposureAgent.exe process does not end in the resource monitor.
