Disparity between BTs Online Meter and tbbMeter for

[link to this post]

I now use BT's online broadband usage measurements and according to them I have uploaded & downloaded between 100 and 300 megabytes per day for November. I have a 10GB per month limit and get quite close each month - according to BT.

I've therefore also recently installed tbbMeter but am getting some surprising daily measurements. For November, tbbMeter says that I download an average of 345Kb and upload an average of 7.6Mb each day.

Tonight I ran tests, downloading 50 Mb - which I eventually interrupted and then 20Mb and neither really showed on the meter

I conclude that I am doing something wrong with tbbMeter but I'm not sure what.

I have only 1 computer, am connected via a BT router and tbbMeter is set to measure all traffic.
I have the latest version & I don't have Kapersky.

I'd really appreciate any advice please

All Internet traffic I presume you mean?

If you disable TCP/UDP monitoring do you see traffic when doing the teest downloads? Enable it again and any better?

What firewall/AV are you running?

Hi, yes I did mean All Internet Traffic - apologies.
I use Zone Alarm Free and MS Essentials for AV

I disabled TCP/UDP and then when I tried to run the test, I couldn't see the drop down menu when I hovered my mouse over Test Tools.
Shut down and restarted tbb and then ran the 20Mb test and could see it downloading

Then enabled TCP/UDP - again, I couldn't see the drop down menu so shut down and restarted tbb. Ran the 20Mbtest but didn't see it on tbb

It is possible that this combo is blocking our access to the data, is tbbmeter down as a trusted app with access to the internet

Hi yes, I thought of that one this evening and gave tbbmeter & tbbMeterChecker full access to the internet through Zone Alarm

Just checking - am I right in thinking that there is no solution to the issue that I have?
It is probably a fault somewhere between tbb / MS Essentials / Zone Alarm?

Thanks

Probably some interaction, will take a morning to setup a PC to try out the application combination so no solution yet

Hello again, do you think you are likely to find a solution and if so, when please?
Else I need to find another monitor to validate BT's figures
Thank You,

Pretty simple

MS Essentials was blocking access from tbbMeter to the internet, and also blocking its traffic monitoring.

In Microsoft Security Essentials, you need to go to the Settings tab, and under Excluded Processes add tbbmeter.exe to the list

If you followed default install path under 32 bit os this will be c:\program files\thinkbroadband.com\tbbmeter\tbbmeter.exe

Under a 64 bit os c:\program files (x86)\thinkbroadband.com\tbbmeter\tbbmeter.exe

Not quite so simple perhaps?
I've updated MSE as you suggested - I'm on an XP system - but it has made no difference. I ran the 10 Mb download and have seen nothing in tbbmeter. The download bar on the main graph does not show anything and the full stats show 1Kb only.
I then added tbbMeter Checker.exe and reran the 10Mb test and still see nothing in tbbMeter.
