1 router, 2 computers

[link to this post]

Hope someone can help answer this for me.

I have 1 router with 2 computers using the connection (1 via LAN & 1 via Wireless) - will the TBBMeter log total activity on both machines? Or do I have to install it on both machines and add them both up separately?

Ideally I wanted to track combined traffic going through my router regardless of computer .......so if TBBMeter can't do this is there another program that does?

Thanks

Keith

Install on both, register both computers and then you can access the total usage from teh on-line TBB meter stats page:

And you can set it to record just WAN traffic so local LAN traffic is excluded.

If there is any traffic at all between the two computers, and de facto there will be a small amount even if you cause none, make sure that on each machine you select the option to ignore local traffic, or however it is labelled.

How about if I think a lot of the usage is from my son accessing the internet from his smart phone? Can I pick that up some how?

Best way is from the router. You could graph it using mrtg or prtg.
