Spurious readings

[link to this post]

Using 0.9.8.5 I have just noticed that downloads from ookla speed testers are displayed roughly twice the speed that the actual speed tester shows. I have TBB Meter set to display all internet traffic, is this the right setting?

The site speed tester displays the right speeds whilst running the test.

No.

To be honest I've no idea how long it's been like this.

Do you have either Kaspersky or Avira?

RobertoS,

You've suggested a very likely thing there: for instance, Kaspersky 2011 IS used to cause crazy speed readings with any of the OOKLA based testers (BBC iPlayer speed tester also.)

KIS2012 seems OK though smile

tbbMeter was tweaked to pick up on Kaspersky and halve the figure. However I think in some circumstances that didn't work or K didn't cause the doubling, so it got messy.

I'm not sure what the current state is, but I had K when it was happening, and I got the same effect when I switched to Avira.

Probably always best to wait ages for the BT tester to do it's thing, if accessible, for a true result LOL!

Try enabling WIndows Firewall and disabling Avast, just for an OOKLA test. See what happens smile.

That nailed it. So Avast doesn't like ookla speed tests. Looks like I'll have to live with it. Thanks for your suggestions.
