Varying tbb Broadbank Speed Readings

[link to this post]

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/13648...
My speed tests are showing a discrepancy between the average tbb results and the average x6 results.
I have been having problems with my router (Netgear DGN2200), which I have now susstituted with an older TalkTalk supplied D-Link 2640R, but the problem persists.
Have tried plugging directly into the NTE5 test socket.
Any suggestions?

The button with graphs is the one to look at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/13648...

The difference is proably nothing to do with router

Av software, contention at isp or other issues usually are behind the discrepancy

The first result is using a single stream. The x6 is six streams, so has more chance of maxing out the connection.

AIUI if the x6 is a lot higher than the single it suggests congestion at your ISP.

According to Ookla, multiple streams also overcomes problems with RWIN being too small.

True, and it's usually the first question we ask here, whether XP is in use. But I can only recall maybe one such in the last 12 months, the rest being on Vista/Win 7 or Mac.
