Java 7 update 21 problems

[link to this post]

Hi,

I've been running 9.9.3 on Win 7 for some time without any issues but over the last week or so have encountered real problems after installing the latest Java update. Once I log-in to Win 7 tbb hangs when it loads if my wi-fi connection is enabled and locks up the laptop - I have to do a forced hard re-boot, and takes forever to load if it isn't. The same issue then arises if I then try and connect after Win7 boot-up, it all locks up.

Rolling back the Java to before the update cures the issue, so should I update tbb to the latest version to cure this - 9.9.5 - or is this something else?

thanks,

Izzy

The tbbmeter application does not use Java, so while the two do appear to be having an issue, it is one of those mysteries of software interaction.

Personally don't use Java at all, and have it totally uninstalled these days.

Thanks,

I need Java for a couple of open source programs that cannot run without it. Guess I'll just block any future updates for now. i do know that they have tried to plug some security issues with the current update, and that might well be the cause of the problem.

there's another security hole identified so I wouldn't block updates.

What securty software are you running as I found that that week the Java 7.21 update happened Kaspersky 2012 then had an update which caused the synpoms you described.

Moving onto Kaspersky 2013 and updating java sorted it out.

There seemed to be a lot of update in late April that didn't seem to play nice together.

the current build of Java does have problems with some software and a new build will be released shortly
for those having problems you should use Version 6 Update 45 which will is the last build and will not be updated any more
