TBB Speed very low in Daytime

[link to this post]

From about 11pm to 9am the TBB & HTTP speed tests return about 70Mb/s but during the daytime, although the HTTP is still about 70Mb/s, the TBB speed test is only 0.5Mb/s. It is everyday and regular although the timing may vary by 10min or so. What can this mean? Is it the ISP or something local? Any ideas - Thanks

Is there a big difference between the green and yellow lines on the TBB Speed Test graph during the day? Like this one but worse?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 56.6/14.1Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Can you post a good and bad result, the URL of the results page is sufficient.

If the change in behaviour is very clock like, then suggests ISP may be running a simple traffic management system, that multiple downloads can get around.

That's useful. I believe it's daytime traffic throttling of the non-standard protocol/port.

Hi, Thanks for your opinion, any idea why the ISP would want to do that, and how it might affect normal performance (if at all)? Could other ports be affected e.g. for RDP connections or other remote access applications?

Other ports may be affected.

Our tester spots it because its protocol while not mirroring torrent systems, does tend to get caught by traffic management designed to slow down bit torrent users.

Hi, The first response from the ISP was that they do not use time-of-day traffic management and the problem must be local, either with my router DrayTek Vigor 2830 attached to a BT VDSL modem or the client computers making the test. Is this possible in your experience? If it is the router I have no idea where to look...

Uh uh!!

Fibbers. Here's your answer.
During peak hours (9am to 11pm), we do restrict the speed at which you can file share using P2P sites (to 0.5Mbps). However, if you schedule your P2P file sharing for between 11pm and 9am you’ll get access to your available line speed without any restrictions.
Link.

As suggested, the non-standard thinkbroadband test is being treated as P2P, the http one is fine. Similarly, as MrSaffron says, other ports/protocols may also be treated as P2P.
