Unstable line on max up to 8Mbts

[link to this post]

Having a lot of trouble with noise on my line. I have monitored my snr, which drops from 15db to -4db and is then unable to re-sync until the noise stops. This happens weekdays from around 08.30hrs until around 16.00hrs. No such problems weekends.

As I live in a rural area there are not too many business premises in the area, so it might be possible to trace the noise source, MY question is, how near to my house has the noise source got to be to cause this much instability. Has it got to be quite close, or could it be miles away?

Any informed answers would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

Have you definitely tweaked your line as much as you can i.e. removing ringwire etc?

What router have you got and can you post your line stats? (attenuation/snr/sync)

I switched to a Broadcom based router which transformed my rural line - see link in signature for details.

The first step HAS to be to plug the router directly into the incoming BT test socket behind the master socket face plate in order to take your own house wiring out of the equation.

The source of the noise could be anywhere between you and the exchange.

The timings seem to suggest that it's coming from a business that doesn't open Saturdays.

Business ADSL:

Thanks for all your replies.

I have done all te usual things. disconnected ringwire, Plugged into master socket and i have a clarity face plate fitted.I have eliminated all possible sources of internal noise. You have to bear in mind, this only occurs from 08.30 hrs until 16.00hrs weekdays only??

My line stats are as follows. With Bt 2700HG-V Router with SBC software

Statistics
Collected for 1 day 19:35:56

DSL Connection Details
DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
Downstream Rate: 2272 kbps
Upstream Rate: 288 kbps
Channel: Fast
Current Noise Margin: 14.0 dB (Downstream), 24.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 56.5 dB (Downstream), 31.5 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 17.6 dBm (Downstream), 11.9 dBm (Upstream)
DSLAM Vendor Information: Country: {0x0F} Vendor: {ALCB} Specific: {0x00}
PVC Info: 0/38
CRC 8690
FEC 0

My ISP has kindly put me on a fixed 2M rate, while I try to resolves the problem!
This is of course not interleaved! Hence high CRC errors, but not unstable

To-morrow morning, will not be able to get a sync of any kind until around 16.00hrs. So just want to know how far afield i would have to search for the REIN noise.

ManyThanks

As zebedeee said, unfortunately it could be anywhere between you and the exchange!

Worth checking with any neighbours if you can, to see if they are having similar problems.

I would use RouterStats to monitor the SNR (it works with the 2Wire 2700) to see if you can find any patterns which may help.

Badger further to your webpage, i brought a 2700hgv and 585v6 just to test them, I am getting the odd disconnection in the evening with the hgv2700 but I get the same with the 585v6, and it doesnt sync as good. Any other routers you've used or are you still on the good ole 585v6?

The only other option would be to ask my snr to be raised to 12db (currently at 9db), which I am reluctant to do as it would cause me speed loss, and when I'm only on 2mb anyway, that could mean almost a quarter of my line speed gone.

Thanks MrS

Quite a job then! Still, will persevere, have a council depot close by will try that first I think??

With a bit of patience, and a lot of luck might be able to narrow it down.

Could I log this as a fault with BT, or would they not get involved?

Many Thanks
