Sending MyDomain email from BTinternet

[link to this post]

A friend of mine is trying to set up Outlook to send email from his club domain name - with not much success.

I have no trouble with this on my Zen account, but do BT block such outgoing email?

Hi,
Who's outgoing email server is your friend trying to use?
Sometimes BT let you use their's when BT is your ISP.

If that doesn't work you will need to tell BT about your domain that's hosted elsewhere so that you can send email.
Here are the details:

Presumably he's trying to pretend it's from me@myclub.org.uk or similar.

Depends how he's trying to do it. Firstly me@myclub.org.uk has to exist as an email address somewhere, even if it's an alias or a redirector.

To get Outlook to send emails as if they've come from other than the 'natural' email address, he has to give the first email screen the correct login details for his BT email account. Then click on More Settings and put me@myclub.org.uk in the Reply E-mail box.

That's if I've understood the issue properly.

Tony

It's to do which SMTP Server you've told Outlook to use for that account. Which one did you use?

Most ISPs block outgoing mail on other provider's SMTP Server's Port 25.

Either use BT's SMTP Server or find if the other provider has a SMTP Server not on Port 25.

As X-ray says, they are blocking the outgoing port, use port 587 .

See http://www.btinternet.com/~firststop/shortcuts/smtpe...

To be able to send through BT's smtp server with a 'from' address other than your bt address you need to authorise this address in the BT/Yahoo servers.

Or of course you can use a different smtp server, such as GMail... They do NOT block port 25.

OK - Thanks, Folks.

I am coming to the conclusion that BT do block such outgoing email.

Although I am still not clear about the fix.

His ADSL is with BTinternet and he uses their SMTP for his normal email.

You assumptions are right.

He says he has done what you suggest - and it does not work.

In reply to a post by Sandgrounder:

But who's SMTP does he use for his MyDomain email, as I asked you before?
