DSL router config on Cisco Router

[link to this post]

Hi There,

I am trying to configure a Cisco 1841 router to replace our existing British Telecom 2Wire DSL router. we were having trouble with the 2Wire routers so our provider put an 1841 in place for diagnostic purposes. this solved the problem we were having and so bought 2 new Cisco 1841's to copy the setup of the test one, however our provider wont give us the config of their test router without paying a hefty fee.

I have set the cisco up as best I can but I am not sure how to set the login details etc that would be on the DSL.

I hope that all made sense.

Login details go into a dialer interface configuration (as ppp items)which is bound to the ATM interface.
I cant get to my similar config here as the one site with it is off line at the moment.

How is it connecting to the ADSL then? Are you sure it doesn't have an additional ASDL WIC in one of the slots?
or... is it connecting via another ADSL modem / router?

It is indeed connected to to a fibre modem, but I assumed it would still need the PPOE settings, etc configured but I have looked at the VPDN settings on the cisco router and the only protocol available is L2TP.

Sorry - started to reply yesterday then got dragged off elsewhere.
From a router running 12.4(24)T - pppoe bits only. NAT / firewalling I'll leave to you.

bba-group pppoe global

interface FastEthernet0/1
no ip address
duplex auto
speed auto
pppoe enable group global
pppoe-client dial-pool-number 1
no cdp enable

interface Dialer1
ip address negotiated
ip mtu 1492 ! you may be able to stick with 1500 if the router can do baby jumbo frames and you can set the mtu on the ethernet interface appropriately
encapsulation ppp
ip tcp adjust-mss 1452
dialer pool 1
dialer-group 1
no cdp enable
ppp authentication chap callin optional
ppp chap hostname your-adsl-username
ppp chap password 0 your-asdl-password
ppp link reorders

dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit
