BT Broadband Hub Results

[link to this post]

Can someone please help me before I have a nervous breakdown! Lol.

I have had BT broadband for 12 years but the last year has been TERRIBLE! In a nutshell the broadband service is Soooooo erratic that it has become unbearable! I lose connection at least TWICE a day for the past 7 months! (I always connect by ethernet cable btw). I have complained over and over again to BT and today the FIFTH engineer came to visit. It's always the same though, they carry out tests and tell me there is nothing wrong! There has been 2 engineer visits in the last week or so! The last but one engineer (No. 4) gave me a new hub, the one before that moved the main phone socket that engineer 2 had installed (It's the socket that doesn't need a filter) and still they say there is no problem. We are now apparently trying the socket with the front plate off and a filter to 'Isolate it' from the rest of the house. Within 45 minutes of the engineer leaving today, guess what? NO BROADBAND for an hour or so. And it has gone down a further 2 times.

When it works it's great BUT when it doesn't, arghhhhhh! I have screen prints of every BT speed test I have done and the results range from 31kbps to 11000kbps.

Today I finally learnt how to look at events from the hub manager. PLEASE could someone have a look at these and tell me if there's a problem or is it just me? Am I going mad?

Get a copy of Router Stats Lite and provided it is compatible with your hub use it t plot SNR and Sync speeds every minute for several days ... That will show when the link drops and give you something to discuss with BT

That's lots of errors in a short space of time. Get the next engineer to show you the test results from their JDSU/Exfo, actually look over their shoulder, if they are incrementing fairly rapidly have the engineer chase them. Could be a fault 21cn port, could be REIN, do the errors raise very quickly when the phone is used at the same time ?

Thanks.

Although the next engineer will be number SIX!!!

I very very rarely use the house phone so there's no way that could affect it. In fact the house phone hasn't even been plugged in for the past few days! These are the last hub stats I have done a moment ago. Which is the figure that I should be closely looking at?

can you borrow another ADSL2+ router that isn't a homehub and try that as the homehub is like most ISP supplied equipment, pretty dire.

It may be as simple as a rubbish router.

CRC Events (Down/Up): 592 / 17
HEC Events (Down/Up): 24371 / 7
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 26108 / 111

...... are those that look poor for the uptime of the router.
