Someone check my figures :(

[link to this post]

Hi, first post, and hopefully, not many to come lol!

I'm having a bucket load of problems with Orange, my connection used to sync at just over 11mbps, and would receive about 10mb whilst downloading, great, but now all of a sudden, i'm lucky to get 2mb.

my figures are below:
Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 29.2 dB 14.4 dB
Line Attenuation 22.3 dB 36.5 dB
Upstream 446 (Kbps.)
Downstream 2268 (Kbps.)

Whats going on?!

HELP Please

How can you have two posts that say "first post" ?!? tongue

It looks like your Target SNR may be 15db. Are you familiar with what your 'normal' stats are?

Have you tried restarting your router just in case you've had a bad sync?

Low sync rate causing DLM to raise the SNR and loose the speed.

Any noise on the phone line.

What are those stats like in the NTE test point ?

Both these high NMs are damping your speeds.

Unless, you've had loads of discons, it's Orange that's keeping them high.

Hi,

My normarl stats are usually around 11000kbps down, and 2000kbps up.
Attenuation is about 36db down, and NM is normally about 6db

I dont have a test socket behind my faceplate, on either of the faceplates I have installed in my house, I've changed all the filters, rebooted, even tried another router, and still the same speed. Also have no noise on quiet line test either frown

I've spoken to Orange and they've advised nothing wrong their end, but then again, that was only Tech Level 1, they've escalated it to Tech level 2, and i'm awaiting their call.

I doubt that!

So it looks like your Target SNR has changed from 6db to 15db. Your line will need to be stable for a while before the Target SNR is automatically reduced - which will increase your connection speed. If it isn't running stable (high error counts etc.) then it won't reduce.

I can recommend RouterStats free software to monitor your line which may help show you what's going on.

I'll give that software a whirl, I'm going to contact orange when I get in, I've had a missed call from Tech support, someone in UK, so i'll see what they have to say about it.

Will keep the thread updated
