Infinity user: lowered estimate for ADSL2 speed

[link to this post]

When I was on BE I had speeds around 18Mbps, which pretty much matched estimates from BT and others for an ADSL2 connection.
I moved to Infinity (estimate 58Mbps, actual around 70Mbps) and am very happy.
However, I just noticed that BT estimates for ADSL2 on this same line are now 3.5Mbps (between 2.5 and 4.5), and BE estimate is 3.0 (between 1.0 and 4.5).

I'm not too worried as I don't intend to revert to ADSL, but wondered if this is normal, and what the reason is?

When you were with Be the BT database was ignorant of your line so it just had a guesstimate.

Now you are with BT it know all about your line so it calculates a wildly inaccurate "estimate" grin.

I don't think so. It was a BT line, and has been since BT existed. It did have BE llu on the broadband part.

Even odder. I see from http://windows.mouselike.org/be/index.asp?DoAction=B... that it says 'BT Recorded Line Length to Exchange (m): 4600' I'm sure it used to be somewhere a bit below 2000m.

The point is it may be a BT phone line but it wasn't a BT BB line, so BT knew nowt about its BB capability.

Have you changed your phone number at all? When I moved house and took my old number with me, it seemed to overwrite the old line parameters at the new house with the parameters of my previous house. (I hope that is understandable).

BT -> Zen -> F2S -> Bulldog -> Be* -> BT Infinity 2

No, same number (except for the change of dialling code) at the same house for more than 30 years.

It's a coded warning from BT "Don't go back to ADSL or you will be sorry".

BatBoy: maybe you are right. Even BE don't seem to want me back on ADSL.

In reply to a post by StephenTodd:
No, same number (except for the change of dialling code) at the same house for more than 30 years.
So there lies the problem change in dialing code, Have you tried inputing just house number and post code into the bt checker instead of your number? The BT checker is a guestimate and nothing more,

Change in area code will not affect it. And at a guess the change the OP refers to happened years ago.
