Help please setting up new router

[link to this post]

Hi,

Was with O2 and now with sky. I have also bought the Asus N55u router.

With the sky router, I plug in my Ethernet cable and away I got, all works fine.

I switch over to the Asus router and not so simple. I've entered in my username & password into the quick set up. It says ADSL 'Link Up' at the top in green but under the internet icon says 'please check Ethernet cable' yet it does work on the sky router.

I have tried doing the manual set up as well with no joy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you ever get this resolved? I have exactly the same issue.

We reviewed the DSL-N55U

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/hardware/reviews/78-as...

And found you had to clone the Sky routers MAC onto the WAN interface of the Asus for it to work. Also make sure you are using a current firmware on the router, we found the early firmware to be very buggy.

Thanks, I did read that. The thing is, I have never had a Sky router since I was with O2 (using O2's router) and switched over to Sky. Since I am now getting poor speed on the old O2 router (it will only connect on ADSL1 instead of ADSL2+ as it used to with O2 before the switch), I wanted to try and see if the Asus would do better. Sky themselves instruct you how to set up a non-O2 router on this page - but all that does is give me the ADSL link up like the OP, not internet access. Admittedly, I haven't tried to spoof the O2 router's MAC address, but I sort of doubt that would make a difference - I would have thought that the spoofing is required when you have a router that was supplied by Sky in the first place.

Try the spoofing

The O2 to Sky and routers is very much a try all the possible combinations scenario
