TBB Speed Test drops to 0 and hangs??

[link to this post]

Yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon I've had problems with my Plusnet 40/20 fibre connection. Whilst testing with TBB Speed Tester it starts off and then within a second or two drops to 0 and hangs. At the same time BTW Speed Tester is giving me:-

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
35.84 Mbps
37.05 Mbps Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 35.84 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 25.93 Mbps-37.05 Mbps .
Additional Information: IP Profile for your line is - 37.05 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
6.59 Mbps
20 Mbps Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 6.59Mbps
Additional Information: Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

BTW shows latency in the first part of the test at 21.5 ms.

Things seemed OK this morning but around lunchtime my BQM started showing significant packet loss.

Yesterday I was watching Netflix on the TV and for the first time ever it started buffering and the quality dropped to the extent that I didn't want to watch any more.

Does the TBB Speed Tester just give up if it detects a problem - perhaps excessive latency?

The test will time out and give up if no data

Test runs ok on satellite with 1 second latency

I find if there are excessive CRC errors (like today due to a thunder storm) the test will give up half way through

I've found that I need to hit 'stop' to break out of it. Having tried a number of different speed tests it seems that the TBB one displays the current speed whereas some others display a current average.

I'm not sure why the BTwholesale tester works every time when others fail??

At any point in time yes we display the current figure, see little point in doing anything else as to do otherwise would make an unstable connection look stable.

The wholesale tester depending on how the provider is setup can bypass some internet connectivity i.e. where as we are on the wild internet the BT Wholesale one tends to have a bit of 'private' access

That's what I was thinking. It must mean that the problems that I have at the moment are down to PlusNet.

p.s. Just tried it again and same thing happened. TBB within a couple of seconds drops from 35ish to 0. BTW runs to completion as normal but showing 43ms latency.
