Talk Talk intermittent issues

[link to this post]

Apologies for double post, Talk Talk forum very quiet

At my parents house, they are on FTTC 38 down (2 up I think) (but only get about 15 down)

Must be < 50 metres from cabinet

But are getting insecure connection errors and intermittent loss of internet.

Talk Talk made us switch off router (HG633) for half an hour, and will monitor for 48 hours...

Some stats here, any obvious issues ? thanks in advance

DSL synchronization status:Up

Connection status:Showtime
Upstream line rate (kbit/s):2000
Downstream line rate (kbit/s):16495
Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s):13245
Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s):109888
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB):22.5
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB):28.4
Upstream interleave depth:43
Downstream interleave depth:1429
Line standard:VDSL2
Upstream line attenuation (dB):1
Downstream line attenuation (dB):3.7
Upstream output power (dBm):-7.3
Downstream output power (dBm):13.5
Channel type:Interleaved
DSL up-time:0 days 0 hours 3 minutes 18 seconds

Looks like DLM has capped the downstream speed in order to raise the "noise safety coefficient" (SNRM) from the target of 6. It does this in response to disconnections.

DLM has also added interleaving due to errors.

Either your extension wiring is causing the problems, or there is a fault on the line, or both.

Use the Ginp Formula to determine if your vdsl2 connection is with or without G.INP.
Divide your IP Profile by your Sync Speed and the answer is 0.9669 (with) or 0.9679 (without)

Thanks for quick response.

There is very little extension wiring.

From the master socket dangly filter, 1 line to the router, another to the phone.

I'll try swapping some cables out anyway.

They say they ran some tests and the line was OK... Had to call me back on a mobile while they ran them.

I'd be suprised if it was very short lengths of internal but worth a shot.

The main problem is the disconnections, fix that and the speed should return.

Is the phone line noisy? It should be silent.

The phone line is perfect and silent.

The router sits on top of the PC . I'm going to move it and see if that helps

Has the ring wire been removed at the master if there are any wired-in extension sockets at all?

Is the phone connected direct to the dangly filter or is there a plug-in extension cable between them? Similarly with the router.

Have they got a Sky box?

No wired in extensions, so no interference with ring wire AFAIK.

1.5 metre length of cable to each of router/phone from dangly filter, single panasonic phone (with 3 cordless extensions)

Cat 5 from router into powerline plugs > 2 smart tv conx 1 pc conx

No sky box.

I moved the router last night away from the PC in case that caused interference and changed the filter and wires , so I'll have a look this morning and see how well the connection held up.

Thanks

The line is unable to hold a connection for more than a few minutes, often just seconds. Talk Talk will send an engineer on Wednesday.....

further installments to follow........

Indeed. Having looked at the email from TT this is not an Openreach engineer but a Brightsparks (Talk talk ?) engineer.

I presume he checks the router/filter/extensions. But I'm pretty sure its a line/exchange fault, We will see.
