Advice!

Hello ThinkBroadband members,

I'm looking for some sterling advice from you kind people. On choosing a router (have fibre Openreach modem) or modem/router to replace my fibre BT modem/router.
My requirements, to have good parental control, similar to the current BT home hubs as I find the the complete blocking of various devices at differing times very useful, the other feature would be stable wi-fi that can handle a fair few wireless devices.
Any recommendations would be appreciated of upto £150.00.

Could you tell us why you want to replace the BT router, which you say has what you want? I ask so those who know about these things better than I can avoid recommending anything with the same "dislike" . What BT router do you have please?

Sure no problems, the BT HH wifi is rather flaky with some devices, I have split the signals however still have problems, I have borrowed TP link archer 750ac, much better wifi wise, however, it�s got the looks that only a mother could love. I appreciate its not supposed to be an ornament, however, it�s awful with the fixed stand.

Have you thought about Wireless Access Points (WAPs)?

Yes until, using the TP, so would rather have the answer simple on cabinet and use the one address bar for everything. If needed I can plug and put away the modem.

If you're happy with using a separate Openreach mode, then go for the Netgear R7800 which is arguably the best standalone router around. It normally retails around the £170 mark but Amazon are currently selling this for £140 which is a very good price. It supports Parental Controls, is very stable and the wifi on this is the dog's you-know-what.
