Tisc/TalkTalk Service ID number?

[link to this post]

I've been trying to test my speed with speedtester.bt.com. It won't work with telephone number only, so I phoned TT and asked for my Service ID number - they didn't know what I was talking about but gave me two numbers to try.

LLLS0****** (numbers)

BTLLU****** (letters)

I still can't do the speed test, so I wonder if anyone could tell me the pattern of their Service ID number so I can tell TT what to look for.

Or... does the BT speedtester only work with BT lines? I switched to Tiscali phone including line rental some time ago.

Thanks all,

clemenzina

The BT speedtester will only work with BT lines. I'd suggest using one such as www.speedtest.net

Aaah, that explains that then. Thanks for the info, I wonder if it also explains why the TBB speed tester rates me so low - speedtester.net rates me nearly 4mbps faster than the TBB one.

Years ago, before I changed my phone line to Tiscali, I got a good report from BT's tester.

The BT speedtester will only work with BT IPStream on BT lines.

Sorry, I made an error there - "speedtester.net rates me nearly 4mbps faster than the TBB one" should read speedtest.net.

Our test can be affected by traffic management that the ISP runs, so tick the port 80 option and try again
