Re: TWEAKS TO TRY!

[re: Guest_Again] [link to this post]

Well I'm on Bulldog 8M, and upto now didnt think rwin made a difference, so never bothered changing it. But with it at default, windows would only get to 4M on adslguide speed test. Changing it to uhm 75000 something (default lowest value on one of those sites) windows now claims on adslguide 7100-72xx on average. Though I have trouble finding reliable fast sites to test with. My linux box, on a uk2.net download, was consistently getting 830KB/s or thereabouts.

Amazing, why does windows ship with such a [censored] default!

Just got round to this one and I'm liking it

Downstream 6832 Kbps (854.0 KB/sec) 7378 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 442 Kbps (55.3 KB/sec) 477 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Probably the best result by a few KBs I've ever posted. Not bad for 2.25km cable length away.

If you're synced at different speeds - TRY THIS

[re: Guest_Again] [link to this post]

  • First, set your rWin [Top Receive Window] in DRTCP to 1000000, save this setting and RESTART your PC. (it's way to high but you'll see why in a minute).

  • Next, go to http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks and start the Tweak Tester, when it's finished, press the Results button.

  • On the next page enter the following in the 'Final Step' window: Service - DSL, Speed - [*See Below], OS - XP, Connection - WinXPpppoe, now click Recommend...

  • On this page you will see on the middle left hand side " Choose RWIN between 'xxxxx' and 'xxxxxx' (FAQ #586)" - choose the lowest setting and put that into the Top Receive Window in DRTCP, click Save and then restart your PC again.

  • Now try another speed test

    * Enter the speed that your modem / router is synced at.

    Happy Tweaking!

I'll do extensive testing - err... ONCE UKOnline & Actiontec are ready ;-)
    So hang on )

P.S. I wonder if the guys from Actiontec will realise that 64KB buffer they have on 701 series is too small even for 8Mbps and will definitely be small for 22-graded one...

Apparently Im 3 km from the exchange and Im on Bulldog 8m as well but Im only getting 3 megs in the speed test (about 380 kb per second download) and Im using the speedtouch 330 USB rubbish, could you help me out, am I missing something? If you are getting such speeds as 5-6 megs from 2.3 km away then I should get at leas 4.5 megs or so.. here are my line stats:

    SPEEDTOUCH 330 TWEAK

[re: Esp78] [link to this post]

Have you read Mr.S's sticky in the Bulldog forum? I tried it for a wee bit and my speeds SHOT UP on my old trusty 330!

You can read about it here!

I would still recommend getting an Ethernet router if possible, your speeds should improve AND your pings will drop!

Why not also try using the tweaks below on the bottom right for speeds different to the norm.
