IDNet Broadband coming to a crawling halt, too!

[link to this post]

This has been happening for months now, especially in the evenings.

My router stats show that it is connected to the exchange at 8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 832 Kbps(UP-STREAM) all the time. We have reported it multiple times in the past to IDNet, with no result. Few minutes ago the BT speedtester showed a zero (!) download rate, though the line was connected just fine to the local exchange. How much worse than that can it get?

Thankfully we are switching over to a CPW LLU provider in 2 weeks time.

Why blame your ISP because BT won't uprate your exchange?

You've been moaning about this for a year or more, and taking no notice of the advice given... good luck with the LLU.

How do you know it's a lack of an exchange upgrade? True, 20CN IPStream is old technology, yet it should still work within the expected speed ranges! And my contract is with IDNet, not BT.

You said it... http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/idnet/t/3970719-son...

And your contract is "up to".

I can remember IDNet offering to negotiate with you about other options to try and fix your poor connection, up to and including a leased line. Obviously I don't know the details, but it's hardly their fault if you declined their efforts.

I did follow their advice and took up one of their most expensive packages (other than a leased line which IDNet can't offer at a reasonable price for small businesses). Yet the quality of service gradually got worse over the past few months, and frequent losses of internet access is not what I expected from the contract.

I didn't know that, my apologies.

But the fact remains that any IPStream ISP is totally in the tender and uncaring hands of BT... as you have essentially admitted.

So I'll go back to (a slightly rephrased version of) my reply to your OP- Why blame your ISP because of BT's failings?

There's only so much ADSL capacity an exchange can provide, IDNet do not go nowhere near exchange side activities as that is down to BT so your speed problems are not their fault. All IDNet do is provide you with a internet connection, and you've got that.

You'll have even more fun with CPW laugh

Well, they do try a little harder than that, as do most small ISPs. But in essence you're right.

That's a little unfair, even the big LLU providers are quite good at the wholesale level tongue
