Eclipse Internet - Web hosting problem

[link to this post]

I've been an Eclipse Internet customer for over 16 years and for the most part I have been relatively happy. They are far from the cheapest option but their service has been reliable. However, 2 weeks ago my web site (which is hosted with them) stopped working. I'm an IT specialist myself so when I took a look I realised that the problem was that the web server on which my site was hosted no longer supported ASP scripts. My site is written in ASP. I raised this as a support call as soon as I discovered the problem and was told soon after that the problem was caused by some server upgrades. Initially the support I received was reassuring and I was told that ASP had re-enabled on the new server. However, despite contacting their support team nearly every day over the last week or so (by phone, online chat and email) I'm still no closer to a resolution. I now have no access to modify anything on my website at all. I've also been told on each occasion I've contacted them that the issue would be chased up. This clearly seems not to be the case.

I have often recommended Eclipse to others, but after the service I've received over the past few weeks it's unlikely I'll continue to do so.

Regards
Simon

I can see you have had lots of views but no advise yet.....

My advise...find another webhost there are plenty of them about, have you an accessible backup of your website?

I can second that - I am sure many many people would agree with me when I say the best by far is TSOHOST and they are competitive too - also support is second to none.

I have Cpanel hosting with them and I think I pay about £15 a year

I have been with TShost for many years, reliable, helpful and very reasonable priced.

But!
I find their newer Cloud Hosting Control Panel a PITA, having tried it for one domain/website and then accidentally setting it up for someone else as well.

Their previous and still selectable cPanel is far superior for user control and information.

The problem with their cPanel hosting is that you can't get to a new site for testing without fiddling with your hosts file. OK if you know what you are doing, but not the thing you want to guide a non-it customer doing. Also, you cant run the production site at the same time

I've never had a problem setting up test sites without touching the hosts file. Just bung it in a manually-created subdirectory. Not necessarily even the same hosting package as the domain.

I don't declare it as an add-on domain or sub-domain in cPanel. Set up through FileZilla.

I stuck with Cpanel, used to it and all. I once did try their reseller cloud package and liked how I could deploy on Windows/Linux but ultimately stuck with Linux.

Thanks to everyone that has commented so far. I've stayed with Eclipse so far for convenience as the hosting is part of my broadband package and until now I've not had any issues with it. If things aren't sorted soon at least now I know where to look. Thanks for the recommendation.

Same here. I have done odd test pages etc before with no problems and not having to touch the host file.
