ADSL2+ Router Set Up

[link to this post]

My Granddad's Virgin ADSL (that he's had since his NTL Anytime dial-up was taken away by virgin :L) has been upgraded to ADSL2+ (following his exchange). He was getting 5.5meg and is now getting between 7.5meg during the day and 11meg late at night.

Only problem is, his router cannot be set to ADSL2+ so I don't think he's getting everything out of it. His Virgin provided Netgear DG834G can only be set to ADSL or Auto. When I set it to ADSL2+ it disconnects.

Is there extra settings for this or does it require a chat with Virgin to complete the upgrade?

What version of DG834G is it? See label underneath.

The DG834G v1 & v2 were originally non-ADSL2 but have since been upgraded with firmware. Get it from here: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/259

Sorry didn't think of that, it's a v4. Thanks for your answer. More welcome laugh.

The v4 is the best of them smile

Try the latest firmware here: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1... if not already got it.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8000 kbps 1088 kbps
Line Attenuation 14.0 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 15.7 db 11.0 db

Edit: By the looks Virgin haven't contributed to the upgrade. Upon study, it is clear that we are still limited to up to 8.0meg, but as the potential of 21CN is much higher, we actually get 8.0meg.

Netgear DG834G can only be set to ADSL or Auto. When I set it to ADSL2+ it disconnects.
Then how can you set it to ADSL2+?

What exchange?

The DG834Gv4 never shows what ADSL Mode it is running at in its Web GUI.
Set Auto and run this link: http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bi... and look for "Mode:".

What I meant was the reason I cannot set it to ADSL2+ is because it disconnects.
