Yep, I noticed that earlier.

Makes me wonder if I should maybe look at dropping Virgin (although I still have about 5 months or so left on my contract, so I guess I've have to pay a get out fee unless they change their T&Cs).

Then I have the hassle of finding another provider. My only LLU option is Talktalk (and I know, they said they wouldn't disconnect anyone), but then I'd not get an unlimited connection.

Reading that it look like they are going to be specifically targetting peer to peer connections.... might be a bit of a worry for those sharing files :-/

Yep, I wonder how efficient encryption would be?

yea your right m8......encryption and accessing torrent sites through a proxy.......

ok the isp can look at your packets and yea they can determin that your are file sharing.......but through encryption and proxys there will be no ip no attatched to the said file that can link to you..!!

so yea they will no ( your isp) that you are filesharing but there will be no proof that the record industry can use to point the finger at you and make a case........

its just going to go round in circles.........................

i dont have a problem what v/m are doing here........there just covering there own backs by tring to understand the full extent of filesharing on there network

What gets me is the fact they're not more open about it all.

I guess if they did say what locations would be under test then they might loose more customers from that area, but on the other hand as they aren't saying where they are running trials they might loose more customers from all over the place.

Someone on The Register comments posted a couple of free VPN providers, might be worth a look, the two English ones they listed are here and here.

It's £40 per service now. £120 max under the ofcom hold to term rule.

I should know I used it..

yea i can tell where your coming from regarding the fact that there being so secretive about it.....

but they need to run the system that way so they can get a fair level of results.....

if they told you where they were running the system then i supose filesharers in that area would stop filesharing or cut back on it for the duration of the trial...

so in effect the system would not record proper stats...........

it is good that v/m are looking at the subject of filesharing on there network......all it means is that they will manage it better..........

and as far as accessing torrent sites without leaving a a trace or leaving a fingerprint....

here are 200 proxys to keep you going....lol.......im not for a min saying that you fileshare, but this link just shows how easy its going to be to get around this ,well as far as leaving proof behind you that in turn can be used to bring a case against you.....
