help with 100mb install

[link to this post]

Hi im having 100meg installed Friday but im in the middle of pc upgrades at the moment i sold my i5 desktop with Gbit Ethernet and im using an old Pentium D desktop for a few weeks white i build my new pc, will the 100meg Ethernet be ok as it states on the VM website you must have a Gbit Ethernet because of overheads and things can make it under preform on a standard Ethernet.

so basically will they still install it until i get gbit Ethernet

thanks for any help

Ash

They will install, just that with only a 100Mbit ethernet card be aware that you won't get the full 100Mbps, and an old Pentium D may not cope very well with you streaming video at high resolution.

Thanks for the reply i understand i wont get full speed its not a problem ill have a new pc in a few weeks just wanted to make sure they'd still install it without meeting VMs requirements.
As for the Pentium D and HD it plays flawlessly its got a 8600GT in it although not a fantastic card its more than enough to play 1080p HD (till i get my new pc built anyway lol)

thanks again

My gigabit card set to link at 100mbps full duplex downloads at 11.8 mBps, when on Gigabit I get 12.2 mBps (using Netmeter), so I don`t lose much. Whether you will achieve the same on a 100 mbps card I am unsure, but you should get around 10 meg.

We use the superhub in modem mode and have wireless via a separate router

Best way. The router side of that superhub is so flaky!!

TBH i don't real wanna invest in a septate router when i dont need it i dont use wireless i hate it TBH lol and while wireless modes turned off the hub never reboots so it dont bother me and i don't reli require much from the router sept it to share the net and froward the odd port so its fine.

I still wish i had my old modem/router combo though the modem that was given for 50 meg was solid and i had a decent router but when i left they took modem back and i got rid of my router lol so oh well! hubs fine unless i experience any other problems with it
