Name resolution problems again

[link to this post]

Hiya, I'm on a Guildford server & am having domain name resolution issues again.

Typing in the IP address directly gets around it but it's an inconvenience. A few sites work, most don't, but all work using just the IP

google is at 74.125.39.99 you may find it handy for getting around the web whilst VM resolve things

http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php is working & allows you to get an IP address from the site name.

I just want a nice warm Blood Bath

This may be due to major outages currently affecting many around the world.

Level 3 and Tinet appear to be affected and there have been notes about this being related to a Juniper software issue.

No problems here (Newark), FWIW.

John.

If it is just a DNS issue, then you can avoid the Virgin Media DNS servers

I had the problem yesterday. Google's, Virgin Media's own and OpenDNS all stopped responding. Luckily I was signed into MSN etc so didn't get kicked. Switching between DNS didn't achieve anything so looks like was an outage further down the line somewhere.
